In my last post I covered how to setup the RISC-V toolchain for the Hazard3 CPU in the Pico 2. In this post I will set up a simple project using CMake to blink the on-board LED. Be sure you have installed the Pico SDK using part 1 of this series. Now, let’s get into the details.

In the first post of this series I wrote about how to setup the development environment for the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 microcontroller for the ARM CPU. In this post I am going to cover how to setup the development environment for the RISC-V Hazard3 CPU. Unlike the ARM development environment there isn’t a setup script hosted on the Raspberry Pi GitHub pages. Luckily the Raspberry Pi forums are very active and people there guided me to the information I needed.

I’ve always been interested in low level embedded development. When I’m programming the closer to the metal I can get the more I enjoy the project. I was digging through my junk box for some resistors and found a few Pico 1s and 2s from Raspberry Pi gathering dust. What else could I do but dig them out and write some code to run on them.

As part of Sharpening the Saw I’m going to start writing about things I’m studying. To get started I wanted to make a post with some mathematics notation. It will be a good way to make sure all the pieces are in place.

I’ve been distracted by other hobbies and waiting on the “perfect” time to make a dent in my amateur radio hobby. Well as they say, “Perfect is the enemy of good and I’ll spend the rest of my life waiting. So it’s time to stop waiting and start chipping away. I look forward to a lot of failures followed by impovements and learning. Along the way I’ll be exploring things like SSTV, ARDF, SDR. I used to live in an apartment in downtown Seattle and as such only operated VHF and UHF using an HT from the rooftop. (If you watch a Seahawks game on TV I was on the 23rd floor of that glass tower you see at the north end of the stadium.) These days I have a house with a small yard so I look forward to getting in on some HF action. Here are a few of the activities I’m planning in the future:
